I have been reduced to watching Dexter on Megavideo. D:  It's choppy, it's shitty, it craps out after you've watched 72 minutes (Why is 72 the magic number here?).  I need to train myself to make art without having to watch something while I do it.  I'm sure i can be a lot more productive without the telly on... but I don't *want* to give it up.  There's so much good TV out there, and honestly, I don't get inspired much by the real world anymore.

So I just finished Dragon Age : Origins and got what must be the happiest ending.  Which is strange because the character I picked for my main (my OC Theodate, who is always a white-haired elf and either deaf/non-speaking or a stutterer, as well as being horribly stubborn and pragmatic) is a fairly tragic character.

During the credits, after I finished the game, I saw two MAGICAL NAMES in the voice cast:  Yuri Lowenthal (Yosuke) and David Lodge (Dojima-san).   I FREAKING DIED

Started another playthrough (my OC Agatha this time) when I should be working on a) the book foranneheart and b) the undersea merfolk picture. My pathetic excuse has been that there is no more Dexter to watch while I work... so I guess it's off to Blockbuster tomorrow (uuuugh).

I know this song is really, really cheesy. But it makes me cry every time I hear it. Why? I dunno. Maybe because when Neil Diamond and Brian Wilson join Rock n' Roll Heaven, I will be absolutely crushed. Or maybe because no matter who we are, how famous or rich or loved, we all die... and it's the one thing we do completely alone.

Here's a bonus funny song. I had a dream once that I wrote a sci-fi epic based entirely off of "Chevy Van" by Sammy Johns. There's nothing like a bad song about a pedovan.

I am on my 4th episode of Dexter.  I like watching things while I work on my art, but I usually only work for an hour or two.  Before I know it I'll be done with this season, and I won't be seeing my friend (who loans me the DVDs) for at least a week.  Damn.  The 2nd season is just so good, and I'm so focused on this piece.  I really want to build my portfolio (old-schoolers here in Alexland will know that I've been saying that for ages).

One of my students has been drawing a mermaid... with a very dark background.  I thought to myself that it looked like a deep-sea mermaid... and my newest piece of art was born.  I got to thinking about lanternfish and other deep-sea horrors.  Here's what I have so far.



I don't like the female as much.... maybe because she's not as dynamic? We'll see once I color it.


Also... welcome, used_songs! Not sure which fandom you picked me up from... after having a looksee at your journal, I think it was Lost? Maybe teaching? At any rate, glad to have you on board. I always like having new friends! Be warned, though, I have a dirty mouth and squee over things way too much for a 27-year-old.

Time for a readthrough of The Dark Tower! It's replaced The Stand as my security blanket book series, I fear.  Wrapping myself in my favorite fandoms when it's cold and dark and sad out.  Nothin' wrong with that. 

Also I am thinking Eddie for my next chibi.  I should do Roland because he's more interesting, but my project was to draw my favorite character from each fandom, and Roland doesn't even come close.

OK.  Has anyone actually finished Trauma Center: Second Opinion?  I'm on the second to last level and I pretty much want to throw the Wii through the TV screen.  I have fucking had it with that game.  Even on Easy mode it borders on unplayable at times.

I don't know what's wrong with me. Q says it's not that hot, but every day I feel like I'm slogging through a dryer full of hot, wet towels. I'm so hot all the time it's making me ill, but I'm not running a fever. Drinking more water has helped, but I'm not suffering any other symptoms of dehydration.

As a result I haven't really wanted to draw or do anything. I guess i'm sick with something. Anyway, I did get a piece done this week for a Flickr group I'm in called "Illustration Friday." They give you a prompt every week. This week it was "Wrapped."

Dark tower painting - Roland, also known as The Gunslinger. I decided to try painting with tea, specifically, Celestial Seasonings Black Cherry Berry. Didn't come out dark enough for my tastes; the values seem very washed out. That also could be due to me using tinted watercolor paper, or adding very black ink to it.

Don't think I'm gonna try tea again. Maybe red wine works better?

I finished P3 FES last night, playing all day, grinding to 88 so I could have both Helel and Satan and basically cheat my way through the ending.

The summer is winding down and I'm so damned depressed about it it's not even funny. But at least when work starts again, it's fall and fall in New England is so gorgeous. Plus it doesn't rain much (usually) and is nice and cool. <3

I'm so close to finishing Persona 3, so get ready for a rash of Persona 3 art. I've actually - GASP - been skipping watching Lost so I can play P3. It's a shame that the game takes so long to get really good, though. It felt like I was dicking around for 50 hours before the good parts started.
